J. Archer Vineyards is a small, family-owned Napa Valley winery that produces a Cabernet Sauvignon. What they needed was a bold, standout, modern label design that had a premium, elegant, minimalist look and feel. My first thoughts were to play off the "Archer" name a create a classic looking archer logo and I explored this aspect on a number of design possibilities.

Different design possibilties

I created several designs for J. Archer Vineyards using the initials "J. A" as the foundation for the logo. I designed a few variations in which the letters were shaped to resemble an archer with a bow and arrow, a nod to the Archer name. I also explored more classic layouts with the initials. Ultimately, the client was drawn to the bold combination of "JA," which was the most distinctive and unconventional design among all the examples I presented.

The "JA" logo immediately captures attention and sparks curiosity. The colors were also appealing to the client because they stand out; many labels on the market are predominantly white, black, or various shades of gray. I finished the label with a textured stock and raised, foiled lettering for "J. Archer," which adds a pleasing tactile element when you run your fingers across the finished label.
